Supercook: recipe search by ingredients you have at home

Not really a curriculum web site but great for working moms!  Just enter what you have and it will return recipes, makes note of any ingredients you need and tells which recipes you have all of the ingredients for.

Looking for an easier way to comment on your students written work?  Like to try it electronically?  This site allows you to create a Toolbar in MS Word that lets you insert the comments you create yourself and use over and over again.  This will seem like it is too advanced for some people but really it is not.  Just carefully follow the instructions and you will be able to add a toolbar that lets you easily add feedback to your students work.

Convert files and data online

This site allows you to convert your files to a different format and then email them to yourself.  Lots of options for files, take a look.  I often am asked about converting files to PDF and this site makes it very easy to do.  You can also convert other file types, I have not fully explored it all but I did find it very easy.

There are tweets about this but I did want to make sure it made it into this blog, this is a great article simplifying twitter and the steps necessary to make it useful.  I learned a lot reading it being a Twitter noob myself.  I am still working out just how useful I think it is but this article helped me to figure some things out.

Tech Tip Tuesday: Picasa 3.0 – edtech VISION

Blog to learn a bit about Picassa and how it works.  I love Picassa and use it as my picture organizer on my computer and also to upload to the internet.  It works very well, allows you simple editing and organization tools.  I think this can easily be mastered by a noob.  One of the best things about Picassa is it allows me to upload my pictures to the web from one computer and then to access them on another computer.  I get the full image, downloaded to the new computer, I can edit it, use it with other sites, whatever I want to do.   I am a big one of having pictures somewhere safe, in fact my husband says I get carried away. Digital pics are very vulnerable, if you only have them in 1 place you can easily lose them.  I upload to Picassa, Snapfish and then save to an external hard drive.  I also double check each of those periodically to see that all is well.  You don't have to use my resources but I recommend you develop a way to back up your pictures.  In addition stay up on formats and file types.  You can lose things throug obsolence also.

What a great site. Kids can learn about other societies and cultures and their practices. An example, learn how children in other parts of the world celebrate birthdays. Children from different parts of the world are interviewed and you can read their answers, see pictures and in a few cases listen to the interview. A great addition to social studies country research.
